Recently, it was learned from Foton Motor that the company will increase investment in new energy vehicles this year and expand its new energy bus business to ensure market share growth and meet the needs of domestic and foreign markets.
It is understood that Futian had announced at the business conference last month that it will upgrade the industrialization of new energy commercial vehicles and plans to sell 10,000 new energy vehicles in 2010.
Foton Automobile News spokesman Zhao Jingguang said that in 2009, Foton Motors had delivered more than 900 new energy vehicles, and thousands of Futian hybrid Euro V buses had been put into operation in Beijing, Guangzhou, Kunming, Jinan, and Weifang. In addition, Futian has also received orders for new energy buses from Taiwan, Guangzhou, Shandong, Zhejiang and Tianjin. The United States and Thailand also intend to cooperate with Futian on new energy bus procurement.
At present, Foton has formed a strong technical capability in the research and development of new energy vehicles, and achieved major breakthroughs in the development of new energy vehicles, batteries, and electric control. In January of this year, the production and sales volume of Futian New Energy Bus accounted for half of the company's overall production and sales volume.
Prior to that, Beijing Auto Holdings had proposed a plan to invest RMB 3.78 billion in the development of new energy vehicles in the next three years. According to the plan, BAIC listed in the investment plan of 3.78 billion yuan, 1.5 billion yuan for new energy commercial vehicles, 1.7 billion yuan for new energy passenger vehicles, and 580 million yuan for key components.
In this regard, Foton Motor has actively deployed energy-saving strategies in all directions and has been active in the field of new energy vehicles. In terms of technology research and development and industrial development, last year, Foton Motor integrated the R&D and manufacturing advantages of Dayang Electric Motors of Dayang Electric, Foton Motor, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Beijing Jiaotong University, and launched the “Fukuda pure electric vehicle R&D and industrialization†project; at the same time, Beijing Auto Group, Peking University Advance Technology Co., Ltd., and Dongguan New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. established Beijing Automotive New Energy Battery Technology Co., Ltd. to establish China's largest R&D and production base for automotive lithium battery systems; Beijing Automotive Group, Tsinghua University, and Beijing Polytechnic University, Eaton and other university research institutions, new energy auto parts R&D and manufacturing units, and use units, jointly established the nation’s first new energy auto industry alliance, Beijing New Energy Automobile Industry Alliance.
