Kumho tire union in South Korea refuses to rework

According to the Korea Times (The Korea Times), the Korean Kumho Tire Union recently issued a notice to all its members asking them not to return to work at the Kumho plant.

On March 25, 2011, local time of the Korean Kumho Tire Workers organized a full-day strike and demanded negotiations with Kumho’s management on salary increase and improvement of the working environment.

In response, Kumho’s management took tough measures to stop production activities at the company’s two plants in Gwangju, South Korea. In addition, Kumho also stated that the company has decided that the two factories will resume production after the union members agree not to participate in strike activities in the future.

It is reported that some workers earlier said that they will continue to work for the factory and will not participate in the strike. However, Kumho Union said in a statement: “Kumho had forced union workers to give up the strike.” After that, Kumho Tire Union quickly notified all its members that they should not be reworked.

At present, the Kumho Tire strike has attracted the attention of investors.
